U13s in Convincing Win Over Lintin Village U13-B

Daniel Sherwood

This result shows how well they can play when they act as a team.

Cambourne U13's had their 3rd game this season which was away at Linton. The weather started off sunny and warm but unfortunately turned sour towards the end, with the rain beginning to fall. When we arrived Zak, our captain, lost the toss and we were put in to bat first, setting the score to chase.

James and Shivek opened the batting strongly and achieved a solid start. Eventually, after a long batting spell and scoring 18 runs Shivek was caught by the Linton 2nd change bowler. James fell next but he showed us why he is our strongest opening batsman by hitting boundaries as well as lots of singles. Our captain was in next in, shortly followed by Will. Zak and Will had a great partnership and were batting really well. The two of them got the momentum going, until Zak was out, with the umpire signalling an LBW. Will and I were now batting and together we lasted for some 6 overs. Unfortunately Will was out, but he had batted really well. Soon after Will, I was bowled by a great ball which I took my eye off. I had managed to score a total of 19 runs to help the team. Ishaan was in next along with Alex W. Both batted well and soon we were up to 110 runs in the 16th over. Ishaan fell to an LBW and in came Elliot. Both Alex and Elliot were hitting boundaries and we were pleased to have posted an impressive score of 147 runs - our best score this season with contributions from everyone.

Cambourne were now fielding with Shivek and Elliot opening the bowling. Both bowled well with consistency for the first 4 overs. Ishaan and Zak were next up and carried on from Shivek and Elliot with some great bowling, superb lines and lots of brilliant spin. Alex S and I followed and we both managed to maintain the good line and length with wickets every so often. Then the rain started to fall and the light started to fade. The spectators got their umbrellas out, but Linton wanted to carry on. They were 50 for 8 wickets.

Ibby had a bowl and was bowling well, but couldn't quite get the last batsman out. After Ibby, I came on for my second spell as did Elliot but frustratingly we could not get the last batsman out. With one batsman to get out to win the game Zak turned to Shivek who stepped up and on the third ball of his over took the vital wicket. Linton all out in 15th over.

Well done to everyone for a very good performance which we will take into the next game.
