Rain was in the air and it didn't matter which weather app you looked at, all suggested that there would be atleast some interruption due to rain. Still both captains looked hopeful that there will be a result at the end. Overs were reduced to 40 to help deal with any time loss which might happen due to rain. Longstanton won the toss and elected to bowl. TK & Humberto opened the batting for cambourne. There was some tight bowling by Longstanton bowlers and it was quite a good and even contest between ball and bat until 30th over when Cambourne was 130 for 6 wickets down. The pitch looked good to bat on but it just seemed difficult to break free and score runs easily because of some good bowling. This was evident from the fact that all cambourne batsmen got a good start(TK-32, Humberto-28, Obaid-23, Paul D-23) but were not able to capitalize on their foundation to get a big score. So 170 looked like a par score. Layum who went in to bat at 7; however; had other ideas. It looked as if he was playing on a different pitch than everybody else and scored 49* at a strike rate of 169%. The only six of Cambourne innings also came off Liam's bat which was a result of beautifully executed lofted straight drive. He was well supported by Callum & Josh in the last 10overs where Cambourne got 80 run and finished at 217 for 7 of their allotted 40ov.
Both sides would have fancied their chances but rain Gods wanted some more drama in Senior2 top positions. Thus, the rain that started during the tea break never stopped and match had to be called off. Players’ feeling at the end of the game is pretty well summed up in the picture attached.
