Training News

Thank you to Femi

On behalf of the club, I'd like to pass on thanks to Femi Akinsanya the District Athletics Coach who gave up his time last night to demonstrate some excellent training drills aimed at developing our reactions and explosive power. We learnt a lot and I'm sure we will replicate the drills at many training sessions in the future. For those of you that didn't get a chance to meet Femi, he is currently the World Masters (35-40 years) indoor triple jump champion and Commonwealth Games finalist in 1998 and works as the scssp full-time athletics coach.

Those of you there last night will have also have noticed the BBC2 cameras filming us play a bit of cricket in the sun. This is for a new documentary series called "Britain From Above" which is looking at how the landscape of Britain's countryside and urban areas are changing over the last century, Cambourne obviously being a good example of a modern community. The series will begin soon and our episode will most likely be aired some time in September.

Whites At Training Tonight

Late notice, but can everyone please wear their whites at training tonight. We can't reveal why as yet but its worth coming along to find out! In addition to this, we also have a new kit supplier with some club logo embroidered kit samples (orders can also be taken) and we have the District Athletics coach coming along to take us through some fitness and reaction training drills. Exciting stuff!

Club Training starts this Wednesday!!!

This Wednesday 16th April at 6 pm we have our first club training night whatever the weather!

Hills' Rd nets have now finished and we will be moving to a program of square practice, drills and games.

For the next two weeks we have also organized 2 special umpiring workshops. These are a unique opportunity for the club to learn about the arts and skills of umpiring.

Presented by Frank Appleyard and a colleague from the Umpires and Scorers association these will both start at 7.30 pm and run for 1 hour with questions at the end. It is a two part course.

We would like to insist that all club members attend. This is a three line whip!

The ad hoc training that has happened so far has been great and this bodes well for the club nights.

I look forward to welcoming members both new and old.

Kind regards

Charlie Stephenson
Development Manager & Head Coach

Winter Nets

The winter net sessions are due to begin soon, and Cambourne CC have booked 2 sessions per week for the first time due to poular demand. Please try and attend as many as possible so we are all as prepared for 2008 season as best we can. If you would like to become involved with the club, either playing, helping or simply just supporting, then attending one of these sessions would be an ideal way to get started.

Hills Road Indoor Nets (2 lanes) - Every Tuesday night 8pm - 9pm for 10 weeks beginning 5th Feb
As per last winter, both juniors and seniors are welcome and encouraged to attend as many sessions as possible. The price is still to be confirmed but was around £2 a session last season. Contact Danny W, Chris T or Jonny A for further details.

Outdoor Training - Every Saturday from 9am until the start of the season in May when it changes to Wednesday nights from 6pm.

Thursday Nets - Fenners

REMINDER
We have booked Fenner’s Nets on Thursdays from 8pm till 10pm. This is offered to seniors and emerging juniors by agreement. The emphasis is on coaching and we are trying to run the sessions in accordance with ECB guidelines along with a level 2 coach and Leicestershire player called Jacques du Toit (who kindly presented our awards this year). The cost is shared between those attending on the night (so please bring cash). We currently run a batting net with a bowling machine and two bowling nets. The facilities also allow for wicket-keeping and fielding practice. If you are coming please think about what aspect of your game you want to work on and we will discuss this as a group beforehand as well as working out a personal training plan.

We have to limit the numbers so the coaching can be managed. It is also important that behaviour is perfect as the night effectively represents the club in the wider cricket community.
We are also working on getting the nets after the Xmas period as well so watch this space for details.

We look forward to seeing you there. Many thanks,
CCC

Training and Practice Match

From tomorrow (Wednesday) onwards, we will begin regular senior outdoor training at the ground weather permitting where we will make use of the newly constructed net and can practice our fielding. This will start after work around 6pm, or as soon as enough people turn up. Saturday morning training sessions will also take place from this Saturday at 10.30am, moving to Sundays from May onwards, primarily for the junior teams. Help and guidance from senior players will be much appreciated by Chris Threadgold and the rest of the junior coaches.

It was also suggested by Marc at last nights nets (indoor training has now finished by the way) that we should organise an inter-club game the weekend before our first competitive match, that’s Saturday 28th April, as a combined training and social event. We will be treating this as a proper game and will select the teams as we would for competitive fixtures so pencil the date into your diary now and make your availability known in the week leading up to the 28th.

Winter Net Sessions Booked

The pre-season nets have been booked for Monday nights at Hills Rd sports centre in Cambridge, 9-10pm. The first session is 29th Jan, running for 10 weeks to the 2nd April.

We decided not to go for the 2 hour session on Sundays 12-2, as half the players on the web poll said they couldn't make this time. 9 till 10 on Monday was the only alternative (we tried Comberton but they could not accomodate us).

Everyone played really well and enjoyed themselfs much more than the normal training session. We will be running a similar match next wensday evening, PLEASE if you can make it, do so because it is a very good idea and we just needed one or two extra players tonight to make it better.

Inter club 20:20 Game this Wednesday

We are
planning an inter-club
20:20 practise game this Wednesday night subject
to the weather and enough numbers turning up in an effort to improve some
aspects of our game. Won’t be anything too serious and should be good fun so please
try and come along to the ground if you can. We will be starting the game as
soon as we have enough numbers, hopefully at around
6pm.
