Exuberance No Match For Experience as Old Farts Teach The Kids A Lesson

Upstarts Vs Old Farts 2009 022

Cambourne'e over 30s proved conclusively on Saturday that youth is no match for the experience, skill and guile of the older cricketer as they easily beat the yoofs by around 60 runs. The kids let their emotions get the better of them with a poor fielding display as Darrington led from the front with a fabulous 70, supported well by Crawford and Cooke, taking the seniors onto a commanding total of 230 from a reduced 32 over game.

Both Teams Urn Respect in the first annual Monkfield Ashes

The Monkfield Ashes Urn

Weeks of anticipation and subtle sledging on both sides, summoned up a healthy rivalry between the Monkfield Arms and the Cambourne Cricket Club. However, when the day of The Monkfield Ashes arrived, a calm atmosphere surrounded the ground. Almost too calm…

Poise, Pride and Passion = Promotion as Cambourne taste back-to-back league successes!!

Cambourne Clinch Promotion

Cambourne CC 1st XI went into this weekends clash with Cherry Hinton knowing that a victory would guarantee back to back promotions and a place in Cambourne’s cricketing history. Captain Tandy demanded cool heads and big hearts and got exactly what he wanted.

Gritty Performance From 3rds Not Enough To Beat Babraham

A gritty performance from the Thirds was not quite enough to secure a win in their last game of the season against Babraham III. Captain Wood lost the toss and we were put in to bat (much to Harry’s delight), but the total of 130 was just not enough as the runs trickled through and we were pipped in the 35th over.

Bombers One Win Away From Promotion After Narrow Victory Against Longstowe

Cookie Pulls For 4 vs Longstowe.JPG

A below par display in the field nearly undid an excellent batting performance as bombers narrowly won against Longstowe by 20 runs. Batting first, Paul Cooke (67), Ameya Poyareker (59), Tom Elliott (40) and Vivek Joseph (22) all contributed with significant scores, pushing Cambourne onto a commanding position of 230 at tea. At one point Longstowe were 150-1 but Paul Cooke and Mark Tandy bowled well and Cambourne held it together to take the final wicket in the last over with Longstowe just 20 runs short.

An Abhi return to winning ways as Sharma and Cundell deliver victory

Cundell 50 vs Dullingham

They say revenge is a dish best served cold but a quirk in the fixtures list meant that Cambourne 2nd’s would have the opportunity to serve Dullinghams humble pie Luke-warm, being only two weeks since Cambourne suffered the tightest of defeats in the reverse fixture.

Red Hot Vale Sparks Avalanche

Ollie Vale announced himself as a big-time player for Cambourne with 108 runs in Saturday's win against Fulbourn. Batting first, Cambourne posted a massive 327 for 7 and won by 145 runs.

No Success for McCambourne’s 2nd XI

Vale Drives Through Mid On Against Needingworth

Buoyed by the news that that recession dodging Ollie Vale had secured a McJob at his local burger emporium, Cambourne CC 2nd XI welcomed a young Needingworth side to the lower Cambourne ground this Saturday. Vale regaled the team with tales of how he beat 12 other young hopefuls to the role of chief burger flipper and with a promise of free shakes to all senior club members Captain Lee tossed the coin.

Ukesh takes 5-16 as thirds slump against Linton

A sharp display with the ball and in the field was not enough to triumph over Linton III as the thirds gave away wickets cheaply ending up all out for 70.

In a repeat performance of last week’s game, Simon won the toss and put the opposition in to bat. His decision seemed vindicated when he took the opening wicket with his first ball – Sushant taking a cracking catch at full tilt behind square leg. At the other end, Matt was struggling a bit to maintain line and length in the wind, but his efforts paid off when Ukesh’s safe hands brought him a wicket in his fourth over.

Batting collapse sees Linton slip away from 3rds

With the sun beating down, the thirds headed to the immaculate green of Granta Park to take on Linton III. Captain Wood won the toss and decided to put the opposition in on a damp wicket that looked to be drying out fast – hoping for better batting conditions later in the afternoon.
