Mid-innings collapse extinguishes promotion aspirations

The last game of the season for the 2nds ended in disappointment after a collosal mid-innings collapse undid an excellent fielding and bowling performance from Cambourne. After bowling league leaders Elmdon II out for just 108 it was looking good for Cambourne at the tea interval and a solid start by openers Cundell and Ditcher had everyone in the 2nds believing victory was close. Even when Cundell was out with the score in the mid forties, Jonny Allen and Matt Ditcher looked comfortable at 55-1 but then a series of quick wickets fell, panick set in and Cambourne were all out for just 74 runs. There is still a small chance that Babraham will lose the game this
coming weekend against Thriplow and hand Cambourne II promotion but its
unlikely with Thriplow rooted to the bottom of the league.

A big disappointment for all involved but it shouldn't detract from the progress the club has made during this summer. Pictures can be found here. The league table can be found here.
