Cundell on fire as Cambourne win twice against Sawston

A sunny Saturday saw Cambourne and Sawston cricket clubs go head to head in a double bill, with Cambourne taking the upper hand in both matches. Cambourne I's beat Sawston III's by 4 wickets and Cambourne II's claimed what was eventually an emphatic victory against Sawston IV's, winning by 84 runs.

Sawston III's hosted Cambourne I's and after batting first found runs hard to come by on a lively wicket. Cambourne's bowlers kept a good line and length and restricted the hosts to 107-7 of their 40 overs. Cambourne made hard work of the reply but eventually reached their target with 4 wickets to spare, Danny Godfrey continuing his good run of form this season.

Back at the ground in Lower Cambourne, Sawston IV's won the toss and decided to bowl first and soon tookCundell hits another boundary in his impressive innings advantage of the variable bounce on offer. Openers Ed Garratt and Vasu Kumanduri were both out cheaply and wickets started to fall quickly thereafter. Cambourne were looking like they were in trouble until Chris Cundell batting at no4 and Matt Casey batting at no6 turned the innings on its head and built a big partnership, taking Cambourne past 100 runs. Cundell was putting lots of pressure on the young Sawston bowlers and making runs in all areas of the pitch whilst a stoic performance at the other end by Casey gave good support. With the game looking out of touch for Sawston, Casey was bowled and Cundell followed soon after spooning an easy catch back to the bowler putting the pressure back on Cambourne. Talented youngster Ollie Vale put on a few important runs towards the end of the innings, supported well by Neil Thompson who was making his Cambourne debut. Cambourne finished with a hard fought 145 all out, Cundell playing the pivotal innings finishing with a magnificent 71, his highest of the season by some way.

Despite a good start, Sawstons's inexperience took its toll in the reply as wickets fell steadily. Kumanduri was the pick of the Cambourne bowlers taking 4 wickets and Sawston were eventually all out for 61, 84 runs off their target.

The results take Cambourne I up to 4th and Cambourne II's into 2nd place in their respective divisions. The star of the weekend was undoubtedly Chris Cundell, whos 71 proved to be the decisive difference between the teams on the day.

Re: Cundell on fire as Cambourne win twice against Sawston

I got really hooked by the headline, but unfortunately it refers to his batting, rather than an incident refuelling his scooter

Yeah, i'm starting to feel like i've given Cundell too much headline now, his heads going to explode Eye-wink . 2 weeks in a row hes been the main story in the weekly news now, albeit one of the headlines was for catching the ball with his teeth rather than any technical merit.

It's not just the headlines, all those pictures too. Still it's not like Pepe to let it go to his head ;0)
