After a lot of hard work this year, Cambourne Cricket Club was awarded Clubmark status last night which is a Sport England national award to sports clubs (not just cricket) who have proven higher standards of safety, fairness, coaching and management. This is a really big deal as not only does it give you as members piece of mind that the club is being run and managed competently, it also puts us in an infinitely better position to apply for grants and other funding to put towards new facilities such as an all weather pitch and permanent nets. To put the award into context, we are only 1 of 11 cricket clubs in the county to have been given the award and there are currently less than a 1000 clubmark sports clubs in the UK so its a massive achievement, especially when you consider how young the club is.
A lot of hard work has gone into getting this award and all the committee should be thanked and congratulated for giving up their spare time. One person in particular deserves special praise as without his drive and commitment we certainly wouldn't have managed this. Club Development Officer, Charlie Stephenson, has spent a lot of his free time to put together all the required processeses and documentation as well as managing the project as a whole so on behalf of the club I'd to say a big well done and thank you.
