Sarao's 50 Takes 2nds to Comfortable Victory Against Willingham

Debutee Honey Sarao hit a magnificent half century and was supported well by skipper Chris Cundell, as Cambourne II got their season off to the perfect start against Willingham. Willingham won the toss and chose to bat first posting 107 hard fought runs before they were bowled out in the 28th over. Cambourne reached the target in 21 overs for the loss of no wickets to complete a well earned victory.

Another hot and sunny May Saturday in Cambourne started badly for captain Chris Cundell as he lost the toss and was made to field first in unfavorably hot conditions. The notorious Cambourne wicket proved as lively as ever however as Healy took three early wickets. Willingham steadied the ship for a while, taking advantage of some missed catches in the field before Chelliah struck to take the Willingham left handed no3, caught by Charles from a loose drive to mid on. From there Cambourne powered on, taking the rest of the wickets, with Gandhi taking the best catch of the day with stunning low one down to his right in the slips. Will Derbyshire made his first competitive appearance of his career and performed excellently taking a wicket in his 2 over spell after Healy held onto an excellent catch close in. Cambourne wrapped up the Willingham innings taking the final wicket in the 27th over setting themselves a total of 108 to win.

The opening pair made the run chase look easy, batting superbly to reach the total in 21 overs. Sarao in particular looked excellent on what was his frst game for Cambourne, looking like a class batsman and reaching his half century in the penultimate over. Cundell will also be very happy with his performance, both with the bat and as captain, looking good to reach 39 not out at the close of play.
