Cambourne 1st XI Complete Resounding Win Against Waterbeach on First Day of the Season

Solid from Tandy

The 1st XI got off to a blistering start to the season with a convincing home win against Waterbeach. Waterbeach batted first and limped along to 74-8 off their 40 overs and Cambourne reached that target easily for the loss of just 2 wickets.

Kumanduri got Cambourne off to the perfect start in the 2nd over, completing a double wicket maiden, eventually finishing with fine figures of 3 wickets for just 15 runs in 6 overs. Banning was in fine form at the other end conceeding virtually no runs from his 10 overs but unbelievably failed to take any of the wickets he richly deserved. The rest of Cambourne's bowling was excellent with Darrington, Tandy, Cooke, Lewis and Vale keeping a stranglehold on the run rate throughout as Cambourne dominated in the field. Waterbeach's opeining left handed batsman, nicknamed "nudge" by his team mates, redefined the meaning of the word stoic as he kept putting bat onto ball again and again, frustrating the Cambourne bowlers and finishing the entire 40 overs with 23 not out. Extras was the highest scorer for Waterbeach with 33 as they finished with 74 for 8.

Cambourne finished the job reaching their target after tea for the loss of just 2 wickets with Kumanduri making most of the runs, supported well by Garratt.

Man of the Match: Nick Banning – could have had several wickets but considering his first over went for 3, his figures were excellent.
